Antipasto Skewers Recipe & Pairing

For a delicious and easy holiday pairing, Murrieta’s Well Merlot is an excellent choice to complement Antipasto Skewers. This smooth red wine, known for its soft tannins and ripe fruit flavors of plum, cherry, and raspberry, is complemented by subtle hints of spice. These qualities make it an ideal match for the savory, slightly salty elements of the skewers, while the wine’s medium body ensures it doesn’t overwhelm the fresh vegetables and mozzarella. Together, the Merlot and Antipasto Skewers create a harmonious and flavorful combination, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

12 cherry tomatoes
12 mozzarella balls (ciliegine or bocconcini)
12 slices of salami (or pepperoni or prosciutto)
12 marinated artichoke hearts (or olives)
12 fresh basil leaves
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
Salt and pepper to taste

Wine Pairing: Murrieta’s Well Merlot

Why it works: The smooth texture and ripe fruit flavors of the Merlot complement the mozzarella and salami beautifully, while the wine’s mild tannins won’t overpower the dish. The soft spiciness of the Merlot enhances the richness of the balsamic vinegar and pairs well with the artichokes and tomatoes. The wine’s fruit-forward profile adds a nice contrast to the savory, salty flavors of the skewers, creating a harmonious and balanced pairing.
