2016 The Spur Bottle Shot

The Spur 2016 is crafted from blending the classic Bordeaux varietals with Petite Sirah, which offers a distinctively California expression. Each varietal is farmed, harvested, and handcrafted individually to achieve their greatest expression. This vintage provided aromas and flavors of vanilla, spiced cranberry, and clove with the perfect balance of graham cracker and plum on the palate followed by assertive tannins and a lasting, elegant mouthfeel. Enjoy through 2024.

“Proof that the Livermore Valley can make serious Bordeaux blend reds. I love the fresh blackberries that pour from the glass of this elegant, dry red that prompts you to order some roast vegetables or meat right now. Long, crisp finish. 35 per cent cabernet sauvignon, 27 per cent merlot, 22 per cent petit syrah, the rest petit verdot, cabernet franc and malbec.”

"Vibrant purple color. Aromas of blackberries, currant paste, roasted fig, with vanilla coffee, roasted herbs, anise, clove, some sweet violets and root beer notes. Medium-bodied and plush on the palate with smooth tannins and vibrant acidity. Juicy and tangy fruit (black cherries, raspberries, juicy plums), the fruit has a nice crunch to it, and I get elements of spiced black tea, anise, cedar, espresso and mint. Yummy for sure, but shows freshness as well."

  • "This is a bottle for the wine lover on your list who enjoys the unexpected and will never anticipate a wine with this elegance and restraint to come from California’s Livermore Valley. Murrieta’s Well is an estate-grown winery that celebrates the climate and terroir of the Livermore Valley. It is clear from their wines that they truly understand which grapes work in the region.

Their 2016 Red Blend is a complex wine for the price, which is why it makes our list of the Best Gift Wines. It offers bright cherry and berry aromas. Its blackberry, black plum and cherry fruit flavors show pleasing restraint and are backed up by vanilla and the heat of clove near the finish."
